Brilliant service - easy to deal with and decent pricing. Due to the orientation of our house, it doesn’t get sun on the back and so when the rendering gets wet it doesn’t dry off properly, allowing algae to grow. LBC were able to clean it all off and apply biocide to help prevent it growing back (added bonus, when this ran off it completely cleaned out patio too). As you can see from the before and after, the house looks brand new again! We used this company for exterior render soft wash and the end results werefantastic. We had one wall needed further cleaning with stubborn black stains from the chimney lead flashing but was high to reach and the company head Conan was very helpful and sent another team to complete the job with cherry picker and was cleaned immaculately by two great guys Keiran and Nash.. Very happy with the results and highly recommend.. Ask for Keiran and Nash team..! Will use again.Posted on Google Jay MarctayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I attempted to DIY pressure wash our 150 year old house to remove the carbon from the brick, this did nothing to remove the stain and just damaged the wall. I’m so glad I stopped and decided to hire LBC Exterior Cleaning. Nathan and Harvey were professional, friendly and made light work of our brickwork. The carbon literally melted off the wall!Posted on Google James GardnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service and excellent operator, Misha was awesome 👌

Protecting London’s Most Sensitive Exteriors
LBC Exterior Cleaning provides professional render cleaning services in Richmond upon Thames, the borough with more conservation areas than any other in London. With 85 conservation areas and 831 listed buildings, nearly every street in the borough carries a level of planning protection that makes the choice of cleaning method a compliance consideration before it is ever a technical one. Add to that Buildings of Townscape Merit a planning protection unique to Richmond that applies heritage-level scrutiny to a further category of unlisted properties and the borough demands a level of care and method knowledge that most exterior cleaning companies are not equipped to provide. LBC uses DOFF steam cleaning and softwash biocide at low pressure across all of it, from the Georgian stucco of Richmond Hill to the original unpainted roughcast Edwardian terraces of Station Road in Teddington and the Thames-facing riverside properties of Twickenham and Barnes.
Which Cleaning Method Does Your Richmond Property
Actually Need?
The method depends on the render type, the property’s heritage designation, and its proximity to the Thames.
High-temperature steam at very low pressure with no chemical use. The standard approved method for listed buildings, Buildings of Townscape Merit, Georgian stucco, lime render and original roughcast across Richmond’s conservation areas. Removes organic staining and atmospheric carbon without surface abrasion or water ingress risk.
Low-pressure biocide treatment kills algae, moss and lichen at root level, washing clear over 1 to 4 weeks. Used on Victorian and Edwardian sand and cement renders, pebbledash, and modern acrylic finishes where chemical application is permitted. Essential as a follow-up treatment on all Thames-facing and riverside-adjacent properties.
DOFF steam first to lift embedded staining, then biocide to prevent regrowth for 3 to 5 years. LBC’s standard recommendation for riverside properties and long-neglected period render where both moisture-driven organic growth and atmospheric carbon need addressing together.
High-pressure washing is not appropriate for any render surface in Richmond and carries particular risk on listed buildings and Buildings of Townscape Merit where surface damage constitutes a heritage breach.
How Does LBC's Render Cleaning Service Work?
We assess render type, heritage designation, proximity to the Thames, soiling level and access requirements on-site or from photos. For listed buildings and Buildings of Townscape Merit, we confirm the appropriate method in writing before quoting. You receive a fixed price with no surprises on the day.
Richmond’s mix of tall Georgian townhouses on Richmond Hill, narrow Twickenham terraces, riverside apartment blocks and large detached homes in Ham and Petersham requires careful access planning. We select the right method: rope access, cherry picker or telescopic equipment, and handle all logistics at no additional administrative cost.
DOFF steam is applied first where required to lift embedded staining and atmospheric carbon. Softwash biocide is then applied to all treated surfaces to kill residual organic matter and prevent regrowth.
Full walkround before we leave. You receive before-and-after photos and written aftercare guidance.
These Are the Signs Richmond Properties Show Before the Real Damage Starts
- Green or yellow staining running downward from window ledges, roof edges or gutters
- Rapid or recurring algae growth on Thames-facing or riverside-adjacent elevations
- White or grey streaking on stucco or roughcast where atmospheric pollution has embedded
- Black patches on north-facing walls or those shaded by Richmond's mature street and garden trees
- Patchy, uneven colouring on historic render or roughcast where biological growth is beginning beneath the surface
- Chalky or powdering finish where lime-based render has begun to degrade under organic matter
On Richmond’s riverside properties in particular, the most reliable warning sign is not the appearance of the render but the speed at which organic growth returns after a previous clean. If growth is back within a year, the root cause was not addressed — biocide treatment applied after cleaning is what breaks that cycle. The earlier exterior render cleaning services in Richmond are applied correctly, the longer each treatment holds and the less restoration work the property will accumulate over time.
What is the best method for cleaning render in Richmond?
For Georgian stucco, original roughcast and listed or Buildings of Townscape Merit properties: DOFF steam cleaning. For Victorian and Edwardian pebbledash and sand and cement render: softwash biocide, or a combined approach where heavy staining is present. For all Thames-facing properties regardless of render type: biocide treatment after cleaning is essential to prevent rapid regrowth.
