How We Clean Commercial Windows in London
The right cleaning method depends on the building. Height, access, the type of glazing, what is around the building at street level, and sometimes even the time of day all play a part. We assess each building on its own merits and choose the method that gets the best result safely and efficiently.
Here is a breakdown of the methods we use and when we use them:
Water-Fed Pole System
This is our most common method for commercial buildings up to around four or five storeys. We use extendable carbon fibre poles fed with purified water to clean the glass from the ground. There are no ladders, no scaffolding and no disruption at street level.
Purified water is the key to a streak-free finish. Because all the minerals are removed before the water reaches the glass, it dries clean with no residue. We use this method on offices, retail units, schools, apartment blocks and a wide range of other commercial buildings across London.
Cherry Picker and MEWP
For buildings where a water-fed pole will not reach, or where access from the ground is not straightforward, we bring our own cherry picker. We own the equipment and our operators are IPAF trained and qualified to use it safely.
Owning our own machine means we are not relying on a third-party hire company. We can schedule the job when it suits you, our operators know the equipment inside out, and the cost to you is more predictable. Cherry pickers work well on mid-rise buildings, buildings on narrow streets where scaffolding would cause problems, and sites where the glazing is in an awkward position.
Abseil and Rope Access
For high-rise buildings and situations where a cherry picker cannot get close enough, rope access is the most effective solution. Our abseilers are trained to IRATA standards and work in full compliance with HSE requirements for work at height.
Rope access is particularly useful on tall buildings where installing a cradle would be expensive, on buildings with unusual shapes or setbacks, and on sites where street-level access is completely restricted. It is also the method of choice where the windows are set into the facade in a way that makes other access methods impractical.
Traditional Cleaning
For ground floor windows, shopfronts, internal glass and situations where a more hands-on approach is needed, we use traditional window cleaning with squeegees and purified water. It is still the fastest and most effective way to get a perfect result on accessible glass.
We often combine methods on a single building, using a water-fed pole for the upper floors and traditional cleaning at ground level where a closer finish is needed.
