Unusual Endeavors: 5 Things to Clean You Probably Haven’t Before
There are a lot of things to clean around the home that you’ve probably never even thought about before. We’re here to tell you about 5 of the biggest ones.
Do you ever wonder how clean your home is? Most of us have a cleaning routine, but perhaps there are areas in your house that you have forgotten. Did you know, one pound of soil can hide in a square foot of carpet?
Have you ever thought about the hidden areas in your home that might need urgent attention? Here are the top five things to clean that you probably haven’t done before.
The easiest way to clean your blinds is to remove them and place them in a bath of warm, soapy water. Let them soak for an hour, then rinse them with warm water before you dry them off and hang them.
Whilst you wait for your blinds to soak you can give your windows a quick clean. The best thing to clean windows with is a white vinegar spray. Mix a solution of vinegar and water (half and half) and spray onto the glass before wiping dry with a soft cloth.
2. Rubbish Bins
Your kitchen bin should be washed and disinfected at least twice a week. Bin lids are a hotspot for germs and should be wiped clean every day. Wheely bins should also be deep cleaned regularly to deter pests, maggots, and flies.
If there is a foul odour coming from your drains then you probably need to clean them. Your drains should be cleaned and checked at least once or twice a month to avoid blockages and plumbing issues. You can hire a professional to unblock and clean your drains if you are unsure how to clean them.
4. TV Remote
Your TV remote should be cleaned regularly with an alcohol wipe or spray (especially if you have multiple household members). Make sure you dry the remote before using it again. Scientists analysed various household items and found that the TV remote was among the dirtiest with up to 20 times more dirt than a toilet seat.
If you have a flat-screen TV you should clean this at the same time. The best thing to clean a flat-screen TV is a damp cloth with a drop of dish soap. You can dry the screen with a dry, soft cloth to remove any residue and dust particles.
5. Shower Curtain
You should wash your shower curtain at least once a month to avoid mould, mildew, and dirt buildup. You can wash your shower curtain by throwing it into the washing machine with household towels and half a cup of baking soda. Make sure you remove the plastic rings before you put them in the washing machine.
If you don’t have a shower curtain you should still pay close attention to your shower screen. The best thing to clean glass shower doors is white vinegar and baking soda. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and use it as a cleaning spray along with some baking soda on a clean cloth.
